Valve’s Living room speculation…

http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/

The last reveal is coming up and I don’t think it’s a controller… The first circle either represented the Steam Universe expanding or the SteamOS software..  So one circle in the last picture is that…

and the other is:

  • XBMC integrated as it’s media center
  • Netflix (or other media) now available through Steam
  • Allows other game distribution alongside Steam like EA’s Origin
  • Steam adds the capability to run other Linux applications
  • And in true “CNN Style” – Sony makes the PS4 the first Steam box…

In any case, I’m expecting a software announcement or an integration of a different “universe” with Steam/OS.  What are you expecting?

Update: Well I was wrong.. oh well..

  1. None of them were in line with things they would have announced this week.

XBMC integrated as it’s media center

I wouldn’t bet on that one. Its not hard to write a player and since big picture already plays media id say it will be some embed thing for that.

Netflix (or other media) now available through Steam

I wouldn’t bet on it for netflix but spotify is already announced as going to be integrated so there is media being put in there. Netflix might be on steamboxes though if they are locked down a little more than steamboxes seem to be heading for at least valve’s official one at least.

Allows other game distribution alongside Steam like EA’s Origin

Well you can have a windows install with both distribution services already and put it in the living room if you want. The steambox itself more than likely wont allow things like this but you can always install a different OS or Ubuntu proper on the box and put what you like on it.

Steam adds the capability to run other Linux applications

It already can, you just add it by clicking add a game in steam.

And in true “CNN Style” – Sony makes the PS4 the first Steam box…

-100% never going to happen. I know that seems like an impossible percentage but it just shows how impossible it is for that specifically to happen.
